The Dutch event industry
is coming back to 'live'

As the pandemic is finally nearing an end, the event industry, concerts and festivals are slowly but surely coming back into the picture in the Netherlands, with Fieldlab. Due to all Covid-19 measures, most events have been cancelled for over a year now. Events that can and could be organised, are done so with strong limitations.
Event industry coming back with Fieldlab

This is where and why Fieldlab comes in, created by the events sector in collaboration with the Dutch government. The goal of the organisation is to show that events – business and public, in various situations – can be organised safely, despite the lingering fear of Covid-19. The aim of the Fieldlab events is to develop validated building blocks, that prove a safe and reliable approach is needed, going forward. These events are organised in cooperation with different companies, governments, interest groups and, of course, the public. The aim of the events is mostly to create trust with the national government to accelerate a safe return to full operation of events, just as it was before Covid.

The test events have been categorised into 4 categories.

Event type 1: visitors are calm, controlled and pragmatic. Visitors are seated. Examples are a congress, theatre, musical, circus, cinema or classical concert.

Event type 2: visitors are enthusiastic, may jump up, cheer and/or sing (along). Visitors are seated (or standing). Examples are a concert or an indoor sports match.

Event type 3: visitors are enthusiastic, ‘gezellig’ and ecstatic. Visitors are seated (or standing). Examples are an outdoor concert or a football match.

Event type 4: visitors are enthusiastic, ‘gezellig’ and ecstatic, dance, laugh and chat. Visitors walk around, dance and relocate. Examples are festivals or fairs.

The aim of the events is mostly to create trust with the national government to accelerate a safe return to full operation of events, just as it was before Covid.
